Q: There is one award for the best act of the last 25 years, who will get that award, for you?
“Liam appears alone. Sloping on in a dubiously expensive fake-fur black duffel coat, hood pulled down hard over his eyes, he stalks the stage, inciting the crowd, mouthing the word “C’MON!” over and over, gesturing for adoration, booting a giant football into the crowd. Some call for Patsy, Liam’s intended. A middle-age mum near the front hurls a toilet roll. Then Noel strides on. He stretches his arms wide, drinks in the acclaim, then walks over to his brother who’s crouched on the lip of the stage. Noel leans over, kisses him and the band kick into “Acquiesce”. It’s quite conceivably the best beginning to a gig in the history of pop.”
